Taffs Well 0-5 Briton Ferry Llansawel: Reds hit five to progress in Welsh Cup

Briton Ferry over came a potential tricky cup tie at Taffs Well with a 5-0 win to secure their place in the next round.


The Reds took the game to their hosts and were always looking to get forward and attack. Ferry took the lead after 12 minutes thanks to Meg Kearle.  The Reds had more chances with Laura-May Walkley hitting the post and sending another chance wide.  It took the Reds until the 42 minute to get their second goal when Aimee Heath scored finishing off a good move. 


The Reds continued to push forward in the second half and again controlled large parts of the game. Meg Kearle got her second of the game after 58 minutes to put Ferry three up.  Alison Witts added a fourth in the 76th minute scoring after a long throw from Ella Greenway.  Witts then got her second in the 82st minute to 5-0. 


The Reds will now face Penydarren in the next round of the Bute Energy Welsh Cup.

 

Ferry had an early go at goal when Aimee Heath sent the ball into the box form the left.  Taffs tried to clear but the ball fell to Alison Witts who hit a shot just over the cross bar.


Ferry went close again when Alice Broadley’s ball into the box fell to Megan Kearle.  Kearle hit an effort at goal but it went over.


Laura-May Walkley then drove though the middle making her way past serval Taffs Well’s players before taking a shot at goal.  Her effort was straight at the keeper. 


It was Meg Kearle who opened the scoring with a finely chipped shot into the far post.  Tija Richardson playing the ball into Alison Witts who then played it though the Taffs backline finding Kearle.


The Reds continued to put the Well women under pressures and Amie Heath sent a shot just wide as the host struggled to clear Walkley’s ball into the box.


Walkley then saw her curling effort from the corner of the box cannon back off the post.  Walkley was trying to create chances and saw another effort she made blocked.


Tija Richardson slid the ball though to Walkley, Walkley then side stepped a defender before sending a shot just wide.


The second gal came in the 41st minute as Amie Heath finished off a good piece if play.  Walkley and Witts linking up in the box to pass around the home teams defence giving Heath a tap in.

Alison Witts made a run down the right and played the ball into Walkley.  Walkley set up Heath for a shot but it went straight at the keeper.


Meg Kearle got Ferry’s third as she struck a shot inside the box from a good ball from Jess Denscombe.


Anna Stevenson made a good run down the right for the hosts and played a good ball into Sophie Regan.  Regan went for goal but put her effort wide.


Walkley hit the post again  after Taffs tried to clear from a Ferry corner.  Walkley’s low drive had the keeper beaten but came back off the post.


Alison Witts made it four for the Reds with 75 minutes gone.  Ella Greenway just on from the bench sent a long throw into the box.  Witts brough the ball under control and hit a shot on the turn past the keeper.


Witts then got the Reds fifth with ten minutes to play.  Maia Owen got away down the right and played a ball into the box.  Witts meet it but her first effort hit the bar before she turned the ball in from the rebound.


The Reds saw more late chances as Tija Richardson hit the post and Lucy Powell forced a good save from Alysha Hawkins.
