Pontardawe Town 2-4 Briton Ferry Llansawel: Witts and Jenkins hit doubles as Ferry take win

Briton Ferry made it 11 wins from 11 as they look to finish the Adran South season with a 100% record.  Rhys James’ side overcame a tough test at Pontardawe winning 4-2.


A tough first half saw Ferry take the lead early on thanks to Alison Witts.  Keira Harris pulled the hosts level, and they grew into the game.  The Reds struggled to get a grip of the match until towards the end of the first half.  They retook the lead shortly before the break though Fleur Jenkins.


The Reds came out quick in the second half and soon added a third goal.  Fleur Jenkins getting her second after 51 minutes.  Alison Witts then added a fourth goal just past the hour mark as the visitors started to control the game.  Pontardawe weren’t going to fold and made it tense finish when Catryn Cook scored after 86 minutes.  Ferry were able to see out the game and take the three points.    


The Reds now head to Cwmbran next week where they have the chance to make it an invincible season.

 

After a scrappy opening six minutes Alison Witts fired the Reds ahead.  A high ball over the Ponty back line from Lucy Powell found Witts who shrugged off a defender before hitting a low shot past the keeper.

The Reds looked to press home their lead as Alice Broadley sent a ball across the box.  Her ball found Jess Denscombe, but her effort went wide.


Lucy Powell sent in a corner to the near post and found the clever run of Lexi Clayton.  Clayton could only turn the ball wide from a tight angle.


Witts sent Denscombe away down the right and Denscombe was able to get a ball across goal.  Lucy Powell met it but turned her shot wide.


Keira Harris levelled the game with a effort from outside the box that went flying into the top corner. 


Megan Kearle got the ball out on the left and had space to shoot across goal.  Celyn Barnett got down well to get a hand to deny Ferry a second.


Jess Denscombe got away down the right and sent a low ball into the box.  Timing her run Fleur Jenkins met the ball with a first time shot into the bottom corner.

Ponty had an early go for goal, but Courtney Young showed a safe pair of hands.  Moments later Meg Kearle tried from the edge of the box, but her effort was straight to the keeper.


Fleur Jenkins extended the Reds lead kin the 51st minute firing a shot home after a good piece of play as Meg Kearle and Alison combined to find her free in the box.


Lucy Powell sent in a corner into the box and Alison Witts’ glancing header put the ball into the fat corner.

Chelsea Deacon sent a good ball into the box finding Alice Broadley in space.  Broadley had a good chance to score but put her effort over the bar.


As the clock was running down the hosts drew closer as Catryn Cook pulled a goal back.  Soon after Sara Llewlyn shot just wide of the goal. 


Ferry then pushed forward and Lowri Baker saw her long-range effort crash off the cross bar.
