Match Report Under 19's: Defeat for Reds on the Road

It was a defeat for the Reds in their first Adran Under 19's South game as they fell to Pontypridd United 5-1 at USW Sports Park.


The hosts started brightly and took an early two gaol lead thanks to goals from Ruby Stacy and Layla Cooper. The Reds came back into the game and pulled one back before the break though Megan Kearle on 28 minutes.


The second half saw the Reds push for a leveller but despite several chances to level the game the side were caught on the break with 75 minutes gone by Stacy. As the game went on and spaces open as Ferry tried to comeback Torri Grenfell and Robyn Lloyd added another two for the hosts.


The Reds will go again next Friday as they host North Cardiff Cosmos at Llandarcy Academy of Sport.

 

The first chance fell to Pontypridd when Yasmin Richards tried from distance but her effort went wide of the post.


Ferry then had their first chance as poor clearance from the Ponty keeper fell to Megan Kearle. 


Kearle made her way into the box but the keeper recover and covered the ball before Kearle was able to get a shot away.


The Reds were forced into an early change as Manon Thomas was forced off and replaced by Lilly Hills. 

In the 14th minute the host took the lead when Ruby Stacy’s effort from outside the box went in.


The home side were pushing and had a chance for a second when Layla Copper went close with a low shot that need Georgia Cobley to turn past the post.


Shortly after it was two as Cooper this time turned in from close range.


The Reds came back and Catryn Edwards had a shot blocked and Meg Kearle saw her effort hit the side netting. 


Shortly after and the Reds had one back.  Edwards played the ball into Kearle who step inside a defender before firing into the top corner.

An early corner from Mia Pritchard almost found Ella Greenway at the far post but Ponty were able to get the ball out.


Ferry soon had another chance as Edwards made her way down the right and put the ball across the goal.  Ella Greenway met but she put her shot over. 


The Reds kept the pressure going an Meg Copelands header went just past the post.


Ferry kept knocking on the door and Ella Smitham rattled the Pontypridd crossbar.


The host battled back and Cobley was need to react quickly to save from close range.


Pontypridd got a third on the 75th minute as Ruby Stacy grabbed a goal on the counter attack.


With the Reds chasing the game the home side added two more though Torri Grenfell and Robyn Lloyd.
