The Reds picked up an important win in the Adran Under 19’s South on Friday night as they beat Pontypridd United 4-1 at Llandarcy. Ferry suffered a defeat in the last meeting but put in a fantastic performance to gain the win.
The Reds made a flying start to the game and took the lead eight minutes in though Ella Greenway with a stunning strike. After 14 minutes Matilda Matthews got the Reds second goal. Ten minutes before half time and it was 3-0 thanks to a goal from Lucy Jones. Five minutes into the second half and Catryn Edwards put the Reds four up. Ponty pulled a goal back in the 75th minute The Reds took the three points.
The Reds sit fourth in the table with 28 points two behind Barry Town in third.
Ferry made the breakthrough after eight minutes when Ella Greenway scored. Greenway took a throw from the left side and sent the ball into the box. Ponty were unable to clear and Gwen Phillips got the ball and sent it back to Greenway who curled the ball from 25 yards into the far post.
Grace Hughes took a free kick from just inside the Ponty half and sent the ball into the box. Hughes ball in caused havoc for Ponty and the ball went out to the left to Lucy Jones. Jones played the ball across goal and before the keeper could get to it Matilda Matthews nipped in to put the ball into the net.
The third goal came from a corner after 35 minutes. Matthews swinging the ball into the far post where Lucy Jones met it first and powered a header into the goal.
Just five minutes into the second half and Ferry made it four. Catryn Edwards from 30 yards looking to lob one over the Ponty keeper. The keeper looked to be getting the ball but Edwards effort had too much on it and it slipped though her grasp.
Ludmila De Sousa got a goal for Pontypridd as the Reds pick up and huge three points.
