The Reds are on the road again this weekend as they travel to SWWGL Women Combined leaders Taffs Well in the Bute Energy Welsh Cup. The match at Rhiw Dda’r will be the first meeting between the two sides. This is a rearranged fixture that was postponed last weekend. The winners of this tie will face Penydarren in the second round.
Both sides head into this game holding unbeaten records so far. Taffs Well have won all four of their league matches and beat Pontarddulais Town in the last round of the Welsh Cup. Taffs have been in sensational form this season scoring 47 goals in their four league games. Their last match saw them beat Lucas Cwmbran 21-0. Megan Jones scoring eight goals in this match to take her tally to 13 for the season.
The Reds come into this fixture after two draws and three wins in the Genaro Adran Premier. They currently lead the table by one point from TNS, Swansea City, Cardiff City and Barry Town who all have ten points.
Cardiff City are the current holders of the Welsh Cup and have won the competition for the last three years. In 2023 the Reds were the runners up losing in the final to Cardiff City.
Reds Manager Rhys James wants to ensure the team keep the good run of form going into this game,
"It's really important we continue the good form that we have shown in the league, and carry this through into the cup.
"It's going to be a great opportunity for players to get some minutes under their belt. Some returning from injury or others who have been waiting patiently for their chance.
"It's important that every football player at this club is ready to step up when asked, and they will all need to be up to speed."
With the potential for a cup shock James said his team will take nothing for granted,
"We certainly won't be taking this game lightly. All week we have spoken about making sure nothing changes for us.
"I know a little bit about Taff's Well and how well they are doing in the league and we look forward to this challenge.
"We certainly won't be taking this game lightly.
"All week we have spoken about making sure nothing changes for us.
"The quality and willingness to do the right things does not change.
"Its the cup and anything can happen and we've seen that from previous years how Adran Premier teams can be beaten.
"We need to make sure we are not one of those teams and will be focusing on doing the right things, playing our way and putting another performance in like last week."
