Match Preview: Caldicot Town v Briton Ferry Llansawel

The Reds will travel to Caldicot Town this weekend as they return to league action. After a tough 2-1 win away to Pontardawe in the Welsh Cup the team now return focus to the Adran South.

The Reds have dropped down to second place following Cascade’s 6-0 win over Llanelli last week. The Reds do have two games in game and could return to top spot depending on the Swansea Uni v Cascade result.

Manager Rhys James stated that moving into second will not change the way the team approaches this game.

“We just concentrate on ourselves every week, we can't control other teams’ results, only our own.

“As long as we keep picking up wins, we'll be in the right end of the table come the end.

“Play our way Sunday and stick to our principles!”

Caldicot are currently in 7th place in Adran South and yet to pick up their first win. Their last two games have seen them draw with Swansea Uni and Coed Duon.

The teams have met once this season in a Welsh Cup game which saw Briton Ferry come out 4-1 winners at Jubilee Way. Laura-May Walkley, Alison Witts, Mollie Jones and Lowri Baker getting the goals for the Reds.

The Reds have won the last six meetings of the teams including a 10-1 win in January 2023. Fleur Jenkins and Meg Kearle both getting hat tricks. Rhys James believes the good record can breed confidence saying,

“It gives us confidence that we know we can get the job done but we still must go there and do it all again, it’s never easy there either.

“Caldicot make it difficult for you and tough to break down, with pace on the break.

“We have prepared for this and will be very excited to continue in the league again.”
