Match Preview: Briton Ferry Llansawel v Pontardawe Town

The Reds kick off their defence of The Genero Adran South title on Sunday as Pontardawe visit Old Road. Rhys James' team are looking to bounce back from last season's play-off final defeat and gain promotion this season.

Pontardawe finish in third place in last years Adran South and will be hoping to build on that this season. They will be without one of last season stand players in defender Sophie Topper, who left to join Pontypridd United. However they will will still have last seasons joint second top scorer Catryn Cook. Cook scored 13 goals last year and will keep The Reds backline on their toes.

History is with the Reds having won the last six meetings between the sides. The two sides met five times last year (four league and one Adran Trophy) the pick of the games saw a 9-2 win for Ferry, with Meg Kearle scoring four.

After the disappointment of missing out on promotion manager Rhys James has bolstered his squad with forward Alison Witts joining the Reds from Pontypridd United. Anya Welch returns to the club offering more midfield options and defender Kayleigh Hateley adding to the defence.

With promotion to Adran Premier the expectation this season manager Rhys James reflected on the sides pre season,

"We have has some fantastic preparation in pre season and the team are ready to go Sunday.

"It will be really important to get off to a good start, but we know it certainly will not be easy.

"We want to set our standards high so we can achieve the goals we have set."

"Pontardawe always give us a tough test, and I'm sure they will want to start their season with a win too.

"I think they will be stronger again this year, they had a good core group there and if they build on that, they will cause problems for any side.

"We will need to be at our best that's for sure."
