Caldicot Town 0-1 Briton Ferry Llansawel: Alison Witts late goal sends Ferry top

Alison Witts scored late on as Briton Ferry returned to the top of the Adran South as they beat Caldicot Town. In a tough game were the Reds created lots of chances but couldn’t make the breakthrough they found a way to win.


In tricky conditions the Reds looked to gain a foothold early on against a well drilled Caldicot side. Ferry tried to move the ball around despite the heavy pitch and looked to push the home side back. The Reds created several chances with Alice Broadley hitting the post and Lucy Powell seeing her penalty saved.


In the second half the Reds again continued to push for the opening goal. Meg Kearle, Lowri Ridings and Chelsea Deacon all had chances to break the deadlock. Ferry finally got the goal they had been pushing for in the 81st minute when Alison Witts fired home her 12th league goal.


The Reds return to the top of the table on goal difference after Cascade’s 2-1 loss to Swansea Uni.

 

Laura-May Walkley sent the ball down the left into the path of Meg Kearle. Kearle sent the ball into the box to Alison Witts. Under pressure from the Caldicot defence Witts was able to turn and get a shot at goal but it was just wide off the top corner.

Alice Broadley saw her effort crash off the woodwork as her curling shot for the edge of the box hit the post.


Lucy Powell sent the ball into the run of Meg Kearle who run forward and played the ball into the centre for Alison Witts. Witts sliding in could only direct the ball straight at the keeper.


A high ball into thew middle from Lucy Powell found Alice Broadley who cushioned effort went straight at the keeper.


Caldicot mounted a quick counter and had a shot at goal from distance, but Courtney Young was alive diving across to her right to push the ball away from goal.


Alison Witts put a cross in from the right and Alice Broadley was free in the box. Broadley with a first-time effort sae her shot creep just past the post.


The Reds won a free kick on the left of the box when Walkley was scythed down. Meg Kearle sent the ball into the box, but the keeper punched away before Witts could get to it.


Ferry got a penalty when Alison Witts was pushed in the back. Lucy Powell stepped up, but her effort was saved by Sarah Pope.

The Reds had an early corner that was sent in by Meg Kearle. The ball fell to Walkley who fired a shot over the bar.


Lowri Ridings played a ball into the path of Alison Witts who stepped past a defender, but her shot was blocked.


From the corner Lucy Powell sent the ball in low and it came out to Ridings who hit a shot, but it was kicked off the line by the keeper.


Anya Welch tried from distance, but her shot was straight at the keeper. Walkley got the ball into the box and set up Kearle for a shot but again it was straight at the keeper.


Anya Welch sent a ball into the box and found the run of Meg Kearle. Kearle sent the ball past the keeper, but it was cleared off the line.


Walkley made a run across the box and played the ball into the far post for Chelsea Deacon. Deacon’s shot was straight at the keeper.

The Reds finally got the opening goal in the 81st minute as Alison Witts netted her 21st goal of the season. After heavy pressure in the Caldicot box Laura-May Walkley got the ball to Witts he fired a powerful shot past the keeper.
