Briton Ferry Llansawel 2-2 TNS: Kearle late show stuns Saints

Briton Ferry Llansawel late a late equaliser in a dramatic game at Old Road.  After being behind and with ten players Meg Kearle’s late strike ensured the Reds stay in second spot in the Adran Premier.


There was a tense opening to this game as both teams battled and looked to get off to a good start.  TNS had the best early chance forcing a save from Courtney Young.  Maia Owen and Alison Witts both had chances for the Reds both sending headers over the bar.  The home side did make the breakthrough in added time after Walkley was fouled in the box, Lucy Powell converted from the spot.

The visitors pushed for an equaliser in the second half and tried to put the Reds under pressure.  On the half hour mark Ferry were reduced to ten players after Laura-May Walkley was shown a second yellow card.  With Ferry down to ten TNS pushed harder and got level in the 70th minute with a Lexi Jones goal.  Ten minutes later and they took the lead as Jones got her second.


The Reds have now gone 28 league games at Old Road without defeat.

 

The Reds had an early free kick which  Lucy Powell sent into the box.  Tija Richardson made a good run into the box but was unable to get a shot at goal.


TNS had their first chance when Sophie Phillip’s free kick found its way to Chantelle Teare.  Courtney Young quick to react to Teare's close range effort with a good save.


The Reds worked the ball down the left and Walkley cut inside and cross the ball across goal.  Maia Owen rose to it but her header went over.


Chances were hard to find but Ferry were able to craft a good one when Jess Denscombe sent a cross in form the right.  Alison Witts met it but header went over.



The Reds continued to pressure and from a Jess Denscombe free kick Maia Owen got the ball and saw her shot blocked.  Walkley then sent the ball across goal but Lucy Powell couldn’t quite reach it. 


A cross from Maria Francis-Jones was too quick across goal for Grace Dunkerly at the far post.

Into added time an Walkley made a run into the box and was brough down.  Lucy Powell fired the ball into the top corner send the keeper the wrong way.

The Saints came out strong and Helen Evans hit a shot wide from a cross from the left. 


The visitors continued to push and Young had to quick off her line to get to the ball before Teare after a ball into the box.


TNS then had free kick on the edge of the Ferry box after a foul by Walkley.  Walkley was shown a second yellow and sent off.  Maria Francis Jones took the kick and went for goal but it was comfortable for Young.


TNS made a break down the right with Ella Smitham down holding her head.  The game carried on and from the cross Lexi Jones equalised.  Smitham was then replaced by Meg Kearle.


Lexi Jones then had another chance but her effort was charged down by Lowri Ridings.

Jones would get a second goal for the visitors when her poked effort crept in.


Helen Evans tried from distance but her effort was saved by Young.


Meg Kearle slipped the ball though to Maia Owen who got a shot from distance under pressure but it went straight at the keeper.



Owen then sent a cross in that found the head of Lucy Powell but the keeper was able to gather.

With the game looking like it was over Ferry dug deep once again and found a equaliser six minutes into added time.  A ball over the TNS defence from Jess Denscombe found the run of Meg Kearle.  Kearle keep her composure and made her way into the box and slotted the ball past the keeper to thunderous noise at Old Road.
