Briton Ferry will go into the hat for the Welsh Women’s Cup round three after thrashing Merthyr Town 16-0. A fast start saw the Reds race into a 5-0 lead after 20 minutes and they continued to pressure throughout the game.
The Reds were relentless in the first half slicing open the Merthyr defence at will. With crisp quick passing play the visitors had no answer to the waves of Ferry attacks. First half hat tricks for Mollie Jones and Megan Kearle a goal from Laura-May Walkley and a brace from Lowri Ridings, giving the home side a commanding 9-0 lead.
The second half saw more of the same as The Reds kept the pressure on. Mollie Jones got two second half goals and Laura-May Walkley got her second. There was a first Reds goal for Freya Davies.
The Reds made a quick start moving the ball around the pitch well. Mollie Jones’ ball in behind the Merthyr defence almost found the run of Lowri Baker but the visitors keeper was out quick to collect.
The fast start paid off after two minutes as Mollie Jones gave the Reds an early lead. Working down the left Megan Kearle put the ball across the box and found Jones who had an easy finish.
Mollie Jones picked up the ball on the right and sent the ball into the box where Laura-May Walkley was running in. Walkley hit the ball first time but sent her effort just wide.
The pressure from the home side was telling and the lead was extended when Laura-May Walkley sent the ball over the keeper from the edge of the box for two nil.
Megan Kearle made it three nil when her corner to the near post went in off the hand off Miller.
Another good passing move saw Walkley play a sublime though for the run of Jones, Jones sent an effort just over the bar.
Lucy Powell sent a corner into the near post which Merthyr tried to clear. The ball fell to Megan Kearle who unleashed a rifle of a shot into the top corner.
Megan Kearle sent a corner right into the six-yard box which Miller could only get a hand to. The ball went thought to Lowri Ridings who headed in on the line.
Kearle with high ball into the box found Lowri Baker in space. Watching the ball come down Baker hit a volley that was pushed over the bar by Miller.
A corner sent right on the goal line by Kearle was missed by the keeper and fell on the line to Mollie Jones who had a tap in.
A though ball found Mollie Jones in space, and she ran into the box, spotting Megan Kearle in space Jones unselfishly squared the ball for Kearle to tap in.
Ferry were having success from corners and made it eight when Kearle’s corner once again found Ridings on the line who had an easy finish.
The Reds cut though their opponents again soon after Alice Broadley found Mollie Jones in the box. With a cool low finish Jones got her hat trick.

Freya Davies on at half time made it 10-0 after Miller made two saves in a scramble in the box. Baker and Walkley denied before Davies hit the lose ball into the net.
Soon after and Mollie Jones was played in on goal and calmly stoked the ball into the bottom corner past Miller.
Alice Broadley went for goal from a free kick just to the left of the area but sent the ball too close too Miller.
The home side kept pushing forward for more goals and Lucy Powell’s pinpoint cross found Walkley. Walkley sent a powerful header past the keeper.
Walkley won the ball back with a good sliding tackle that found Mollie Jones. Jones tried a shot, but Miller saved and then stopped from the follow up from Becca Rees.
Lucy Powell sent a ball forward to Freya Davies who then found Mollie Jones. Jones took the ball with a fine touch to control before unleashing a powerful drive past Miller.
Laura-May Walkley got her hat-trick as the game was coming to a close. With a determined run into the box she squeezed the ball in at the near post.
In the last minute Lucy Powell added a 15th goal from the spot sending the keeper the wrong way.
With a good piece of passing play the ball found Freya Davies in the box and she fired past miller to make it 16-0.
