Briton Ferry Llansawel moved into second place in the Adran Premier after a 1-0 win over Aberystwyth Town at Old Road. The win also see’s Ferry secure a top four finish to phase one of the league and retain their spot in the Adran Premier for next season. Walkley’s goal coming in the 82nd minute after a hard fought match against a tough Aber side.
The first half saw a scrappy contest on a cold evening. Both sides battled for control of the game with good chances few and far between. Courtney Young was needed to tip over the bar from Aber best chance of the half after Lleucu Mathias had hit the side netting. Walkley hit a shot straight at the keeper and Alison Witts’ free kick struck the Aber wall.
The second half saw the Reds up the ante and push the visitors back into their own half. The Reds looking to defend their home and secure a top four finish created multiple chances. Tijia Richardson saw an effort saved and Walkley had chances to break the deadlock. It was Walkley who did grab the vital goal with eights minutes left.
The Reds can now look forward to playing in the championship conference when phase two begins. The win moves them into second place four points behind leaders Cardiff City with a game in hand. They have also extended their league win streak at Old Road to 27 wins.
Aber had the games first chance when Lleucu Mathias found some space and hit a shot into the side netting. Aber continued to push and from a corner Rebecca Mathias headed wide.
Ferry then made a quick break as Alison Witts sent the ball forward to Maia Owen. Owen linked up with Jess Denscombe and Denscombe sent a cross into the box but the keeper claimed it.
Laura-May Walkley was first to a loose ball and fired a shot at goal but it was straight at Chelsea Herbert in goals.
Aber then went close when a free kick into the box needed a strong hand from Courtney Young to turn over the bar.
Owen tried a shot from distance that was blocked for a Ferry corner. From the corner into the box no Reds players got on to the end of it but they won another corner. Powell again swung the ball into the box but Aber were able to clear.
Powell sent a free kick into the box from halfway and the ball was part cleared but fell to Walkley. Walkley went for goal but her shot was blocked.
Walkley was fouled on the left just outside the box and Alison Witts struck the free kick but it hit the wall.

Ferry won an early corner and Powell sent the ball into the far post. Aber managed to stop the Reds from getting a shot but the ball went out to Lowri Ridings who saw her shot blocked.
Owen sent the ball down the right to Walkley who drove forward. Walkley sent the ball into Richardson but Aber defended well and stopped the Reds attack.
The Reds had a free kick out on the left which Powell sent into the box. The ball made its way across to the back post and found Ridings. The Reds captain fired a shot away but it went over.
Walkley the won another free kick out wide which Powell sent into the box towards Richardson. Aber managed to partly get the ball clear but only to Walkley on the edge of the box. After controlling the ball Walkley sent a shot over the bar.
Jess Denscombe sent a high ball forward and found Walkley. Walkley hit a shot and forced a decent save from the Aber keeper. From the resulting corner from Powell Walkley went close again as her header went narrowly over.
Another Lucy Powell free kick into the box saw a scramble between both sides to get the ball. It finally sat up for Richardson who hit a shot but the keeper saved.
Ferry had been building the pressure on the visitors and with eight minute to play made the breakthrough. After a save from the keeper Aber though they had cleared their lines only for Denscombe to put a perfect cross onto the head of Walkley. Walkley’s deft header curling past the Aber keeper.
