Briton Ferry Llansawel are into the semi finals of the Adran Trophy for the first time after a late winner against Aberystwyth at Old Road.
On a heavy pitch at Old Road the first half saw very few clear cut chances. Lucy Powell had a couple of efforts go over the bar and Alison Witts went close on a few occasions. The visitors did think they had broken the deadlock but there was a foul on Courtney Young.
The second half was similar to the first as both team battled to gain control. Clear changes again at a premium with neither side giving their opponents an inch. The Red pushed to get the opening goal but some strong defending from Aberystwyth kept them at bay. As the game was coming to a close a free kick from Meg Kearle was put in by Josie Pugh to give the leads the winning goal.
Aber made a bright start and won an early corner. The ball played into the near post was cleared by Lucy Powell.
Alison Witts played the ball inside to Walkley who sent a good ball though the Aber defence. The pass found the run of Meg Kearle who’s low effort was saved.
From the corner Ferry applied some pressure, Brooke Llewellyn saw her shot blocked and as the Reds continued the pressure Alice Broadley’s cross was taken by the keeper.
Maia Owen played the ball into Alison Witts who found Jess Denscombe coming forward. Denscombe tried from distance but her effort was saved.
Aber were starting getting more into the game and a long ranger effort saw Courtney Young parried the ball and Aber turn in from close range but Young was fouled so the goal did not count.
Walkley was then fouled on the edge of the box giving the Reds a good chance. Lucy Powell lined up the free kick and went close with her strike going just over.
Powell went close again soon after latching onto a loose ball and shooting at goal but again her effort was just over.
Moments later and Maia Owen went sliding in with Aber keeper Chelsea Herbert. Herbert got to the ball first and Owen was booked.
A good cross across the box from Denscombe found Witts. The ball fell into Witt’s path but with little time to control the ball it went wide.

An early second half chance for the Reds when Alison Witts hit a powerful effort from outside the box. Her effort had the keeper beat but went just over the bar.
Aber soon had their own chance but their effort from the right was well wide of the goal.
In a game with few chances Aber had another that went wide of the Ferry goal and Hannah Davies tried a pot shot from distance but sent it wide.
Jess Denscombe sent a free kick into the box and found Tija Richardson. Richardson under pressure could only send the ball wide.
Walkley crafted a chance just outside the box but her shot went wide.
Alison Witts then saw two chances go wide. Hitting a shot on the turn she sent the first one wide. The second saw her under pressure then manage to get her shot away but again sent it wide.
A Reds free kick saw a scramble in the box and the ball fell to Brooke Llewellyn who fired a shot but it was blocked.
With time running out the Reds had another free kick. Meg Kearle lined it up on the right and her quality ball into the box was turned in by Josie Pugh to the celebrations of the Ferry side.
