Barry Town United 2-4 Briton Ferry Llansawel: Reds secure third spot win over Linnets

Briton Ferry Llansawel beat Barry Town United 4-2 at Jenner park to finish the season in style.
Barry started off the game well and put Ferry under pressure in the early exchanges. They pressure told as they took the lead in the ninth minute, Aliya Hull getting the goal. The turned the game however with two goals in two minutes. First Chloe Rudge made it 1-1 then Catryn Edwards put the Reds ahead. Just past the half hour mark and Mia Pritchard added a third direct from a corner.

The second half saw Barry push to get back into the game. While they tried to pressure they did not create many clear chances but were able to pull a goal back though Scarlett Davies. The Reds showed their character as with nine minutes to go Lucy Jones added their fourth to seal the win.
The win confirms a third placed finish for The Reds just three points behind league winners Cardiff City.
The host made a quick start looking to push the Reds back. Despite the Linnets trying to pressure early on the Reds have the games first shot when Lucy Jones tried to hook the ball over the keeper.
The hosts then had their first shot at goal as an effort from the edge of the box went over Charlotte Merry’s crossbar.
The host took the lead eight minutes in when Aliya Hull’s shot went in off the bar.
The Reds though turned the game on its head five minutes late as Chloe Rudge first levelled the scores and Catryn Edwards put them ahead. Rudge turned in the ball from close range after Tegan Owen’s corner into the six yard box.

Then two minutes later Catryn Edwards sent a shot from the right that caught out the Barry keeper to give the Reds the lead.
Lucy Jones then broke into the box from the left and from a tight angle forced Barry keeper Daisy Price into a good save.
Barry did have a chance when Lucy Coles shot from distance but her effort lacked the power to trouble Merry in goal.

Just as the half hour mark and Mia Pritchard made it 3-1 to the Reds. Pritchard’s in swinging corner from the left deceiving everyone to go in.

A long ball forward almost found the run of Chloe Rudge but the Barry keeper was able to come out and clear.
Ella Greenway sent a huge throw form the left into the box finding Chloe Rudge but Rudge sent the ball just wide.
Ferry then had another chance as Lucy Jones broke into the box and forced a save from the keeper. As both teams scrambled to gain control of the ball Barry cleared but only to Catryn Edwards who shot wide.
Barry then were back in the game as Scarlett Davies fired a shot past Merry.

Barry were sensing a way back into the game and began to crank up the pressure. Despite their territory and pressure they struggled to trouble Merry with shots sent straight at the Ferry keeper.
With nine minutes to play Ella Greenway sent another long throw down the left find Lucy Jones. Jones made her way into the box and hit a powerful shot that the Barry keeper couldn’t hold.
